FAQ
Some quick and useful information.
Q: Do I need an appointment?
A: For piercings, yes. Our booking system gives us the ability to offer clients a choice of which piercer they prefer and then provide a quote upfront. You can purchase our jewellery online for collection or delivery. Alternatively, you can drop by anytime to browse in-store with the help of a specialist! If you need jewellery fitted or removed that you purchased from us then you can also just drop by whenever you like.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: Everyone has different pain tolerance so some may find certain piercings worse than others. One thing we can assure you of is that you will be made to feel relaxed and comfortable in the studio. We use the best equipment, jewellery and banter to make your experience as painless as possible.
Q: How old do I need to be?
A: [5+ Ear lobes] [12-13 Helix, Tragus, Conch] [14-15 Navel. All Ear, Facial and Oral piercings with parental consent] [16-17 All Ear, Facial and Oral piercings] [18+ Take your pick] *All of these restrictions are studio-imposed guidelines created to preserve health and safety. We at Metalworx reserve the right to refuse a piercing should we feel the circumstances are unsuitable or unsafe. E.g. Intoxicated client, adverse medical conditions.
Q: Do I need ID?
A: Yes. If you are 16 or over you must provide a valid (In date) photo ID before we can pierce you. If you are under 16 you must bring a parent or legal guardian and THEY must have a valid photo ID as well as proof of guardianship where applicable. We can accept a passport, young scot card or driving licence. Always check our age restrictions for piercings.
Q: Is jewellery included with the piercing?
A: Absolutely. You will be pierced with internally threaded, implant-grade titanium. Most piercings include a small selection of colours and styles. If requested we can also pierce you with jewellery from our designer collections for an added premium. *For health and safety, we can’t accept jewellery purchased elsewhere.
Q: I'm sensitive to (insert metal), is your jewellery okay for me to wear?
A: All of our body jewellery is nickel-free and made from implant-grade materials that are suitable for long-term wear in new and healed piercings. We mostly stock certified ASTM-F136 titanium and 14-18 Karat white, rose, and yellow gold. We also have small collections of 316L Steel, niobium, and platinum jewellery.
Q: Do you use a gun?
A: In short, no. Most professional piercers nowadays will opt for needles designed for body piercing as recommended by the APP. They are more hygienic, safe and, less painful overall. Using this method also allows us to equip jewellery often more appropriate for your new piercing.
Q: How do I take care of my piercing?
A: First things first, there’s never a good reason to touch your piercing, especially with unwashed hands! Keeping your new piercing out of harm's way is one of the best things for it. Simple right? To clean it we recommend the tried and tested “saline soak”. We sell aftercare in the studio and offer an aftercare sheet (found on our website) to every client post-piercing.
